The latest issue of the US Archeology magazine published an article and a leading picture on its 3rd page about the 2009 discoveries of the team, led by the Bulgarian archeologist Veselin Ignatov and about the restoration works, done by Sylvia Borisova. The article, titled “Royal Thracian Tomb” provides information about the tomb, discovered in 2009 at Karanovo and assumes that it might belong to a family member of the last Thracian king – Rhometalkus III.
The audience of the US magazine counts 786,000 and is the official publication of the American Archeological Institute. The editors of the magazine carefully select the most interesting archeology news from around the world in order to publish them in its six issues.
This is the second article for Veselin Ignatov and his team in this magazine. In 2007 the Americans spared three pages, both pictures and text, for the couple of ancient Thracian chariots, found by Ignatov in the Triangle area near the town of Nova Zagora in South East Bulgaria. In both articles the pictures are of the reporters of the Bulphoto Agency.
The Karanovo excavation works take place with the support of Association “Kulturni Proekti”, United Bulgarian Bank and the Municipality of Nova Zagora. The tomb is carefully sheltered by a polycarbonate construction, under which the archeologists continue their work during the winter months. During 2010 United Bulgarian Bank will extend its sponsorship grant and the Association will do its best to attract more sponsors willing to contribute to the excavations project.
