The Project helped for the launch of the excavations of the Eastern Mound by Karanovo and some unique finds and new facts about the life of high-born Thracians during the 1st first Century AD were brought to light. The Project’s objective is the successful completion of the excavations and the storage and preservation of the finds there. After the start of the excavations in 2008 the Ministry of Culture offered financial support to the archeologist Vesselin Ignatov in order to protect the oldest Thracian chariot discovered on our land from treasure-hunters. In 2009 United Bulgarian Bank, through the “Cultural Projects’ Association financed the beginning of the excavations which revealed also a rich funeral of a high-born Thracian in a built tomb of 3 by 4 meters of size. The Sofia Gas Company took part in the sponsorship. After the opening of the tomb UBB paid the construction of an engineering structure of metal and polycarbonate which had to protect the site from the atmospheric influences and let the archeologists complete their work on it. At its session, the Municipality of Nova Zagora voted funds for security and salaries of the workers excavating the tomb.
In November 2009 the archeologists discovered unique artifacts – silver cups with gold coating, golden rings with precious stones, shields, swords, a chain armor and bronze vessels.
The goal of the Association, in collaboration with the team of archeologists and the Municipality authorities, is to turn the Complex into an attractive tourist site.
The Project is open for new partners for financing the completion of the site, and the Association would apply for the next stages of work under various programs. United Bulgarian Bank continues its participation through its sponsor budget for 2010.
